St Nicholas Cathedral, Newcastle upon Tyne
Photographs of Churches in Newcastle upon Tyne.

The present All Saints Church in Newcastle has had a church on its site for over 800 years. The present building, built between 1789 and 1796, is unusually elliptical in shape.

Another important religious building in the city is the Church of St Nicholas. The church has a 203ft high crown spire, dating from 1470. The Church of St Nicholas, then became St Nicholas Cathedral in 1882 after the formation of the diocese of Newcastle.

The church of St Thomas The Martyr stands by the Civic Centre on Barras Bridge. It was designed by John Dobson, the victorian Architect responsible for many of Newcastle`s grand buildings.

Saint Mary`s Roman Catholic Cathedral was opened in 1844. Built by public subscription, initially the money could not be raised for the planned tower for the Cathedral. Later in 1870 the money for this was bequeathed to the Cathedral and the tower was added shortly afterwards.
